  As technology advances, the manipulation of digital content has become more sophisticated and accessible than ever. It is now easier to generate or alter photos, videos, audio recordings, and even handwriting, raising critical questions about the integrity of evidence presented in legal proceedings. With the rise of AI-generated content, we must consider how these advancements can potentially compromise the reliability of evidence in court.

  Presenter: Brian Chase is a Managing Director of Digital Forensics at ArcherHall, an expert witness, and an adjunct professor of law. He has a diverse background, including years working as a network administrator for the University of Arizona, a Management and Information Systems degree from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona, and a law degree from the same institution. Mr. Chase has worked with various sized law firms both in an IT and legal capacity, and he has consulted with firms on their use of technology within the office. He has also provided expert testimony in criminal and civil matters ranging from misdemeanors to murder to medical malpractice. Mr. Chase has published and spoken on various technology­ related issues impacting law firms and parties in the civil and criminal justice system. He teaches various topics regarding law and technology, digital forensics and evidence, at a variety of legal and technical conferences.

  Presenter Emily Grant, Washburn University

  Emily Grant currently serves as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Washburn University School of Law.  Prior to her time in the associate dean’s office, she taught legal writing at Washburn Law, KU Law, and the University of Illinois College of Law. Before that, she clerked for various judges, so she’s basically made her professional career all about effective writing.

  Michelle McCormick, LMSW is the Executive Director for the Kansas Coalition against Sexual and Domestic Violence (KCSDV). Michelle has worked in victim advocacy for more than 25 years, first starting as an overnight shelter advocate and continuing to serve survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking, in a variety of victim advocacy positions. Prior to coming to KCSDV, Michelle held various leadership roles in the victim services field. Michelle served as the program director at the YWCA Center for Safety and Empowerment and later was appointed as the Director of Victim Services and state victim rights coordinator for the Kansas Attorney General’s office. Michelle lives in Topeka, has served on various nonprofit and foundation boards, is an alumnus of “Topeka’s Top 20 Under 40” and is a graduate of the Leadership Greater Topeka program. Michelle has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Emporia State University and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Kansas.

  Jamie Cosgrove, JD is Manager of the Kansas Bankers Association Legal Department where she works with a team of attorneys and compliance specialists assisting Kansas banks with legal, regulatory and compliance inquiries and trainings. She completed her law degree after nearly twenty years of working as a commercial banker in Colorado and Kansas, including managing problem loan workouts and asset sales. Additionally, she evaluated underwriting risk for commercial loan portfolios and oversaw retail banking deposit transactions as a Market President.   As an attorney, Jamie worked in private practice, focusing on business transactional law and estate planning before joining the Kansas Bankers Association legal department.

  Presenter: Joel Oster, Esq., is a seasoned litigator and distinguished speaker based in Kansas City. Specializing in constitutional litigation, campaign finance, sports law, and appellate advocacy, he has a notable track record defending First Amendment issues. Previously a senior counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom, Joel played a key role in landmark cases such as Galloway v. Greece and Freedom from Religion Foundation v. Obama. Admitted to the bar in Kansas, Missouri, Florida, and federal courts, he brings a practical perspective to seminars, drawing from extensive experience in successful and unsuccessful legal practices across the United States. Joel earned his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1997.
