Program Summary:
Join Deacon Don Chubb for an engaging presentation exploring the rich history of the Shawnee County Courthouse. With anecdotes spanning from the days of the old courthouse on Van Buren to the present-day building on Quincy, Deacon Chubb will share colorful stories of the judges, lawyers, and memorable moments that have shaped this cornerstone of local justice. Expect both historical insights and amusing tales that bring the courthouse’s past to life.
Deacon Don Chubb
Deacon Don Chubb, of Topeka, is a longtime historian and community leader. A past president of the Kansas Historical Foundation (2018-2019), he has served on its board since 2001 and executive committee since 2010. Don writes and co-produces local history features for TV and radio and is a popular speaker on Topeka’s colorful past. He has also served over 30 years as a deacon at Grace Episcopal Cathedral.
