Expert Testimony CLE Webinar

Expert witness testimony can be challenging even for the most experienced attorney, never mind if you have little to no litigation experience. Understanding the evidentiary foundations for admissibility as well as how hearsay rules impact expert testimony can be daunting. But mastering the evidentiary rules can help you present clear and persuasive expert testimony. Eliciting expert witness testimony skillfully takes practice and artistry, and this seminar will provide you with both. You will be asked to participate by framing carefully tailored questions and using effective cross-examination techniques.

C. William “Bill” Ossmann has been a district court judge in Shawnee County since August 2012. He presently serves as the chair of the criminal department and as the judge for the Drug Treatment Court and the veteran’s Treatment Court.

Ossmann teaches trial advocacy, cross examination, and depositions at Washburn law school. With Wyandotte County ADA Karen Wittman, he also teaches an interim class on expert witnesses.

Ossmann is the program director for an annual NITA public service lawyers’ trials skills program funded with a grant from the Kansas Bar Foundation and he serves as the chair of the TBA criminal law committee.

He is a member of the Sam A. Crow Inn of Court, the ABA, the KBA, and the TBA. He is a Fellow in the American Bar Foundation.

Karen Wittman is Deputy District Attorney in Wyandotte County, Kansas. She has been a prosecutor for 31 years. She is an adjunct professor at Florida International University where she has taught for the chemistry department “From Crime Scene to Courtroom” since 2000. She also is an adjunct professor at Washburn Law School. She has taught “Forensic Science and the Law”, “Forensic Science Evidence” and “Criminal Pretrial Advocacy”. Prior to law school, Karen worked as a Forensic Chemist and testified as an expert in Forensic Chemistry in the Florida State and Federal Courts.
