September Bar Luncheon
Abe Lincoln Presentation

We will host a Abe Lincoln look alike to discuss Kansas-Nebraska Act, Lincoln’s visits to Kansas including campaign trip in 1859, (speech at the Great Western Hotel) Lincoln’s position on slavery.  After his presentation the TBA will escort Mr. Lincoln to Highland Park Central for a assembly including the 3rd-5th graders.

When Steve Burns enters a room, heads will usually turn. His formidable height sets him apart and so does his graying beard. Yet it's the stovepipe hat that transforms the former Sioux Cityan into a lookalike for the 16th President of the United States.  Steve Burns, resident of Russell, began his career in reenactment after discovering he looked similar to former President Abraham Lincoln. He found this resemblance after deciding to grow his beard out and his wife trimmed it in different styles. “You don’t see any pictures of Abe Lincoln without a beard,” he said. The discovery sparked his curiosity of the President’s life, encouraging him to research Lincoln’s legacy. He then began to travel across Kansas to present himself as Old Abe.Burns spent many hours perfecting his image of Abe Lincoln and getting all the facts straight. “I do it to the best of my ability. I try my upmost to keep my facts correct,” he said.

The attendance, support and donations from the TBA membership is vital for the TBA to host educational events for the association as well as our local schools. We thank you for your dedication and commitment.
