CLE: This CLE will discus the status of Defense Services in Kansas, current problems, plans for the future going forward, in addition to education about holistic defense practices.
Heather Cessna is the Executive Director of the Kansas State Board of Indigents' Defense Services. Prior to accepting that position in October 2019, Ms. Cessna spent 16 years as an appellate attorney with the Kansas Appellate Defender Office, first as an Assistant Appellate Defender, then as a Deputy Appellate Defender. Ms. Cessna frequently teaches continuing legal education classes including classes on ethics, appellate practice, case management, and on various topics in criminal law. Ms. Cessna is a graduate of Baker University and the University of Kansas School of Law.
