Program Summary:
Bad faith insurance litigation in Kansas presents unique ethical and practical challenges for both plaintiff and defense counsel. This program examines those challenges through the disciplinary cases In Re Pyle and In the Matter of Studtmann.

The discussion will explore how Kansas law approaches insurance bad faith claims, the ethical pitfalls attorneys may encounter, and the complicated relationships that arise between plaintiffs, defendants, and insurance carriers. Presenters will also address the difficult conversations attorneys must navigate with clients and courts when pursuing or defending these claims.

Attorneys will gain practical insight into identifying conflicts of interest, maintaining ethical boundaries, and handling the strategic realities of bad faith litigation in Kansas.

NOTE: Lunch is not provided, but attendees may purchase food and beverages at the Millennium Café located inside the library.

The Topeka Bar Association's annual Board Blast CLE Marathon will be held on June 5, 2026, at Townsite Tower, with both in-person and Zoom attendance options available. This flexible program offers up to 7 hours of CLE, including 2hours of Ethics & Professionalism (E&P) credit. Participants can choose the sessions that best fit their needs and schedule. While virtual access is available, we encourage in-person attendance for a more engaging and connected experience.
