DAVID MILLER SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Scholarship: An award of $500 may be presented to a law student graduating in 2023 who best demonstrates financial need, academic merit, community service, moral character, and an intention to practice law in Topeka, Kansas. This scholarships intention is to help with bar prep expenses. The scholarship will not be awarded if the scholarship committee, in its sole discretion, determines that no applicant sufficiently meets the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Criteria:
To be considered for the TBA Young Lawyers Division Scholarship, an applicant must:

  • o   Be a law student at an accredited school of law, graduating in 2023.
  • o   Anticipate applying to sit for the Kansas Bar Examination.
  • o   Intend to practice law in Topeka, Kansas.
  • o   Display excellence in academic merit, community service, and moral character.
  • o   Be a student member of the Topeka Bar Association. (No membership fees for students, sign up at any time).
  • o   Complete the attached application and submit by the deadline.

Application Deadline: All applications must be received by April 1, 2023.

This scholarship has been made possible by the memorial contributions from the late David Miller, a prominent Topeka Attorney, and TBA Member.

Applicant must:

  •    Submit a personal essay of less than 1,000 words describing why you should receive this scholarship, which may include details regarding financial need, community involvement, moral character, academic merit, and your desire to practice law in Topeka, Kansas, and;
  •  Submit two (2) letters of recommendation and/or reference, including:
  • One reference letter from a licensed, practicing attorney; and
  • One reference letter from an academic source, such as a professor.
